ASHRAE Technology Award: Heat Recovery for School
Thirty-three-year-old Hamilton Heights Elementary School in Arcadia, Ind., was not providing an optimal learning environment for its students. So the school district decided to upgrade the HVAC system in 2010. One of the upgrades was dedicated heat recovery chiller enhanced runaround coils (DERAC), which helped the school to increase its ENERGY STAR rating of 40 to 94. The coils also saved 70% more energy and took up less space than conventional runaround coils. Citation: ASHRAE Journal, vol. 55, no. 3, March 2013
