The publication of the 2012
International Energy Conservation Code and ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard90.1-2010
- Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings in one book is another positive step forward in the efforts of the International Code Council (ICC) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to increase the awareness and application of energy-efficient buildings and to provide the latest state of the art energy efficiency requirements in one place.
These two documents, the IECC
and ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1, are recognized in the ARRA as the benchmarks for the energy efficiency of residential and commercial buildings, respectively. Because they address the same issues and because both may overlap in their coverage of building systems and designs, it makes sense to publish these two documents together for the benefit of building designers, engineers and building code compliance personnel. In some cases, having both documents in one place will make it easier to choose between different design options. In all cases, this dual edition will make it easier to ensure that new and renovated buildings are built in compliance with the latest references available, in compliance with local requirements and with the goal of ARRA to achieve 90 percent compliance with these target codes in all 50 states by 2017.
