ASHRAE Technology Award: Retail in Cold Climate
In Longueuil, QC, Canada, winters are bitter with temperatures as low as 24.4C (11F). To efficiently heat and cool the Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), a 2100m2 (22,600ft2) single-story sporting goods store in Longueuil, the design team chose a radiant heating/cooling slab, ground source heat pump, and heat recovery devices. Annual energy savings using these strategies are 427,842kWh.Citation: ASHRAE Journal, vol. 54, no. 6, June 2012
