DE-79-08-3 -- Dynamic Test Results of an Absorption Chiller for Residential Solar Applications
Arizona State University has built a test facility to evaluate the steady state and transient performance characteristics of residential sized refrigeration units for solar applications. This paper reports significant findings related to the cold start-up and the on-off cycling of a commercial three-ton lithium bromide/water absorption chiller which has been designed specifically for solar applications. The reduction in the steady state performance caused by on-off cycling can be as much as 50 percent. The effect that the dynamic performance characteristics has on system cost is also discussed.Citation: ASHRAE Transactions, Volume 85, Part 2, Detroit, MI
