DE-79-04-1 -- Energy Storage Augmented by Solar Energy

Off-peak storage cooling systems and reclaimed heat storage systems augmented by solar energy can be used to provide building energy load management control and reduce building energy consumption. Energy conservative design of buildings enhances the potential cost effectiveness of energy storage and solar energy systems.

The new all electric Corporate Headquarters building for the Georgia Power Company (GPC) in Atlanta, Georgia, now under construction, will include both chilled water and hot water storage augmented by solar energy integrated into a technically advanced mechanical system that provides environmental control for the building. This sophisticated arrangement will demonstrate energy optimization through load management, through energy conservative design and through active solar energy collection.
