TO-82-09-4 -- Flow Distribution Improvements in Vertical Rock Beds for Solar Energy Thermal Storage
The first prototype rock bed with vertical flow was constructed at a facility in Colorado in late 1980. The led was instrunented and attached to the test loop, and a series of thermal performance tests were completed in accordance with the contract and in general accordance with ASFIRAE Standard 94-77. Additional instrumentation was installed and tests conducted to determine internal airflow characteristics. Charge, discharge, and heat loss tests were completed at various flow rates, temperatures, and flow directions. This paper discusses the charge, discharge, and heat loss tests were completed at various flow rates, temperatures, and flow directions.Citation: ASHRAE Transactions, Volume 88, Part 2, Toronto, Canada
