TO-2728 -- On the Design of Stratified Thermal Storage Tanks
For this paper the design objective was the storage of two volumes of different densities without the creation of a volume of intermediate density. It has been determined from experiment that there are two factors, the critical layer thickness and the interface thickness, which limit the approach to the ideal design. Both are controlled by the design of the inlet system, but each can be minimized by introducing water at the lowest velocity possible.Citation: ASHRAE Transactions, Volume 88, Part 2, Toronto, Canada
