LA-80-05-3 -- Development of a Northern Climate Residential Air-Source Heat Pump
This paper describes a program of development and evaluation of several prototype residential air-to-air heat pumps. These machines were constructed from available components arranged to maximize the resulting winter seasonal efficiency. Other performance factors such as reliability were also considered when selecting the final design. The steady-state coefficient of performance values for the final experimental heat pump (designated EHPZ) are from 35 to 45% higher than those of commercially available models tested in 1976.Citation: ASHRAE Transactions, Volume 86, Part 1, Los Angeles, California
