In this report, the results of various tasks carried out for the ASHRAE project 1309-RP project are summarized. In particular, the report provides an overview of existing solar radiation models as well testing of predictions from selected models against measured data. In addition, the report presents the recommended solar model that is suitable for predicting hourly solar radiation (global, direct, and diffuse) in any international locations including tropical climates. Application to the recommended model in predicting solar radiation suitable for developing typical meteorological weather files is tested and evaluated using whole-building simulation tool.

Appendix I of this report provided a description of all the solar models reported in the literature that can be utilized to estimate solar radiation from non-solar weather information.

Appendix II provides a background information and justification of the work carried out for the ASHRAE project 13909-RP.
