The aim of this Guideline is to provide lighting anddesign professionals a general understanding ofLED technology as it pertains to interior and exteriorillumination, as well as useful design and applicationguidance for effective use of LEDs. Specifically, theguideline addresses:LED technology and lighting performance;key differences in measurement methods forLEDs compared to traditional sources;attributes unique to LED that may provideadvantages over traditional light sources in someapplicationsLED application challenges that should beevaluated to ensure successful lighting designsand promote end-user satisfaction.Task based design guidance for general lightingapplications, as well as specific space andbuilding types where LED technology can beeffectively applied.

Note that LEDs are frequently used to provide coloraccents and color-changing effects for indoor andoutdoor lighting; however, these established applicationsare outside the scope of this document.
