Full Description

This portion of ANSI/BHMA A156.5 establishes requirements for Auxiliary Bored and Mortise Locks, Rim Locks, and Cylinders and includes security tests, operational tests, finish tests, and dimensional criteria.

Tests described in this Standard are performed under laboratory conditions. In actual usage, results may vary because of installation, maintenance and environmental conditions.

When locks and latches are used in fire door assemblies, they shall have been tested and listed for use in fire doors by a nationally recognized independent testing laboratory and shall be under an in-plant follow-up inspection service.

Grade Qualifications (Also see Appendix A.)

Two classifications of tests are described in this Standard, Operational and Security.

Manufacturers shall indicate the Grade level of locks meeting both Operational Tests 9 and Security Tests 10 classifications. A Grade 1 lock shall meet Grade 1 criteria, a Grade 2 lock shall meet Grade 2 criteria, and a Grade 3 lock shall meet Grade 3 criteria in each classification.

The single cylinder function of each type lock shall be tested for qualification under operational and security classifications.

All other functions shall be considered as meeting the criteria provided the lock case and operating parts are of construction equivalent to that of the lock tested.
