This method evaluates the smoothness appearance of fabrics after repeated domestic-type launderings involving machine washing and drying.
The method is primarily applicable to fabrics described as "durable press" or "permanent press" but may also be used with other types of fabrics.
The test procedure is designed to reflect the minimum capabilities of home laundry equipment currently usedby consumers. The specified machine settings for washing and drying in CAN/CGSB-4.2 No. 58-M arenot designed to reflect advances in cycle design or special features of washers and dryers that enhancethe performance of durable press fabrics.
It is recognized that prints and patterns may mask the mussiness present in durable press fabrics. This does not, however, detract from the durable press concept which seeks to provide the consumer with fabrics that require no ironing.
The washing procedures to be used and the drying procedures for drip drying, flat drying, line drying andtumble drying are detailed in CAN/CGSB-4.2 NO. 58-M.
