A standard Application Programming Interface (API) defines a scope within which, and a grammar bywhich, it is possible to write application software without attention to vendor-specific infrastructurebehavior. This standard defines a standard Application Programming Interface the scope of which ismanagement of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) and use of certain Fibre Channel facilities fordiscovery and management of the components of a Fibre Channel Storage Area Network. This standardis to be used with the Fibre Channel and SCSI families of standards.
