Description / Abstract: Introduction

Note: Nothing in this standard supercedes applicable laws and regulations.

Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence.

Purpose. To determine the Amplitude Modulation (AM) (530 kHz thru 1710 kHz) and Frequency Modulation (FM) (87.9 MHz thru 107.9 MHz) High Definition (HD) reception performance for all motor vehicles equipped with HD Radio receivers.

Applicability. All GM vehicle audio systems capable of reception and playback of HD Radio that will be marketed and sold inside the United States of America and Mexico. This procedure applies to passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks.

Remarks. The results of this test will be a collection of maps indicating the observed digital audio coverage for each of the specified routes. These maps will be used to determine total distance of digital coverage over the test route. These values will be used in a calculation to determine HD Radio performance. In order to expect good results for HD radio reception, the infotainment system under test shall meet the requirements called out in GMW16273 tuner bench test, GMW15650 AM/FM antenna range testing, GMW15649 Active Antenna Electrical Characteristics, and GMW15648 AM/FM reception drive test (analog broadcast). All HD Radio system components shall meet the design guidelines outlined in Global Infotainment Specifications (GIS), GIS-24, GIS-90, GIS-305, GIS-324, GIS-334, GIS-605, and GIS-634.
